Robert E. “ Bob” Martin, 89 of Atchison KS passed away April 17, 2015 very peacefully with his family at his bedside.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20th, 2015 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Hansen, Pastor of the Carol Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Rushville, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Carol Baptist Church or the Atchison Hospital Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Bob was born on Nov. 26th, 1925 in Atchison, KS the son of Eugene and Esther (Massey) Martin. He attended Atchison Schools and entered the United States Navy during World War II on Sept. 15, 1943. He served on the USS Robinson Destroyer and was involved in action in the Philippines, San Bernardino Strait, Leyte Gulf, and Surigao Strait. He was honorably discharged in March 1946. Upon returning home he worked for Midwest Grain Products. Bob worked in the warehouse, retiring in 1990 after 41 years. He was a member of the Carol Baptist Church, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 1175, Atchison. In his younger years he loved to hunt for wild game, and looked forward to mushroom season. In retirement he enjoyed playing golf, doing volunteer work for the Salvation Army and going to Coffee Club at the Donut Shop. He also was a sport advocate and enjoyed watching all sports on the television.

He was married to Glenda Conard on Sept. 15, 1951 in Plattsburg, MO. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter, Deborah Scherer, Atchison, a son, David Martin, Atchison, brother James (Blanche) Martin, Council Grove, KS, one granddaughter, Teresa (Tim) Hegarty, Atchison, three great grandchildren, Courtney Hegarty, Taylor Scherer, Hayden Hegarty. His parents, a infant son, Michael Martin, a daughter, Robyn Levin, and a brother, Ferrell Martin preceded him in death.
