Obituary for Marc Anthony Schmucker

Marc Anthony Schmucker, 58, Atchison, KS, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 with his loving family by his side at the Mosiac Life Care Hospital, St. Joseph, MO.

Marc’s family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 7:00 pm, Friday, January 16, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial will take place in Ligonier, PA, at a later date. Memorial contributions in honor of Marc are suggested to Immaculata High School, Leavenworth, KS and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison, KS 66002. Marc was born in Latrobe, PA, the son of Gerald and Joann (Skoloda) Schmucker. Marc graduated from Ligonier (PA) High School and the University of Pittsburg (PA) with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management with a minor in Human Resources. Marc served his country for five years in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. For the past eleven years Marc had worked as Vice President of Human Resources and Safety for the Bradken steel foundry of Atchison/St. Joseph. Marc was a firm believer in giving back to the community where he lived; serving on numerous community boards, including serving as past president and board member of the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce and as president of Atchison Workforce Development Committee. He was also a long time member of the American Foundry Society, Chairman of Steel Foundry Society of America, Human Resources and Safety, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Leavenworth, KS.

Marc married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Brenda Malinish.

Marc is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Brenda; two sons, Eric (Michelle) Schmucker and Jeffrey (Karis) Schmucker; daughter, Madison Schmucker; mother, Joann Schmucker Bitzer and step-father, Howard C. Bitzer; brother, Jeffrey (Kamala) Schmucker; sisters, Mary (Tom) Clark and Angela (Shane) Herrholtz; brother-in-law, Mike Shadron; step-brother, Howard J. (Alicia) Bitzer; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Ava, Mya, Bellaluna, and Thor; numerous nieces and nephews; Brenda’s parents, Andy and Lois Malinish; Brenda’s sister, Glenda (Corey) Stump; Brenda’s brother, Scott (Tina) Malinish; and his beloved dog, Sophie.

Marc was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Chris Ann Shadron.
