Charlene Elizabeth Latzke, 88 of Atchison, KS, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at Vintage Park, Atchison KS.
Memorial service will be 6:30 PM Monday July 21, 2014 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS, with Pastor Pete Winstead officiating. Private burial of cremains will be at Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, KS. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Charlene was born September 24, 1925 in Shannon, KS, the daughter of Charles and Lela (Heater) Fowler. She was a homemaker and farm wife. Charlene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lancaster, KS, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She worked as an office assistant and a foster grandmother for NEK CAP Head Start for more than twenty years. Charlene especially enjoyed spending time with her children and family.
Charlene married Raymond Edwin Latzke on July 28, 1946; he preceded her on March 3, 1998. Survivors include a son Rodney (Sonya) Latzke, Oak Grove, MO; two daughters, Cynthia (John) Lewis, Lawrence, KS, Mandy (Larry) Holle, Muscotah, KS; a brother, Charles (Laverne) Fowler Jr., Nortonville, KS; four sisters, Marian Whitenack, Atchison, KS, Joan (Don) Basye, Watertown, SD, Kay Domann, Lawrence, KS, Barbara (Steve) Lively, Leavenworth, KS, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are suggested to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Association, Lawrence, KS, for which her daughter, Cynthia serves as CEO, and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.
