Obituary for William L. Callahan

William L. “Bill” Callahan, Jr., 80, of Lawrence, KS died Monday, October 25th, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Bendena, KS with Fr. Michael Guastello as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Benedicts Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until time of service on Saturday at the church. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison entrusted with the services. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict’s Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Bill was born on March 14, 1941, in Kansas City, KS the son of William L. and Catherine M. (Calovich) Callahan, Sr. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1959. Bill served in the United States Air Force for four years. He worked as a mailman for the U.S. Postal Service, was a farmer and was also a truck driver during his life. Bill was a member of St. Benedicts Church, Bendena, KS, and enjoyed playing softball, fishing, hunting, and being a farmer.

He was married to Dorothy A. Libel on July 2, 1966, in Kansas City, KS. She preceded him in death on January 8, 1997. Survivors include two daughters; Elaine and Colleen Callahan, both of Lawrence, KS, a brother, Thomas (Wilma) Callahan, Kansas City, KS and one granddaughter, Taylor Callahan. His parents, wife Dorothy, two brothers; Michael and Nicholas Callahan, and two sisters; Kathleen Krotz and Pat Callahan preceded him in death.
