Obituary for Virginia Rae Surritt

Virginia Rae Surritt, 80, lifelong Atchison resident and longtime employee at the Exchange National Bank, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS.

Cremation is planned. Due to the weather and Covid restrictions, memorial services will be delayed, being held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 27 from 1:30 pm until time of service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Humane Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison, KS 66002. Virginia Rae Surritt was born on December 4, 1940, the daughter of Raymond and Ruby (Hinson) Surritt. Virginia graduated from Atchison High School in 1958. Virginia worked at Exchange National Bank in Atchison for over forty years, starting as a teller and working her way up to Proof Supervisor when she retired in 2005. Virginia was very artistic and enjoyed painting and ceramics. She also enjoyed creating flower arrangements, shopping, playing solitaire, traveling and attending concerts. If a Garth Brooks concert was anywhere close, Virginia and her sister, Patti, would be in attendance. Most of all though, Virginia loved being with her family; especially her nieces and nephews, they were her kids.

Virginia is survived by her sister, Mona Chapman, Caney, KS; niece, Erin Tuttle (Sloan Wilson), great niece, Alexis Tuttle (Eric Burgess) and great nephew, Rylan Tuttle; nephew, Mike Chapman (Gayle); great niece Hilary Suppes (Adam), great-great niece, Quinnlyn, and great-great nephew, Ethan; great niece, Taylor Lewallen (Jake); great niece, Katy Chapman.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patti Surritt; and a nephew, Christopher (Chip) Chapman.
