Teresa J. Portenier, 67 of Atchison, KS, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Faith Bible Fellowship Church, with Rev. Stephen Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Teresa was born December 31, 1954, the daughter of John and Elma Jean (Treat) Avey. She worked as an Optician for Dr. Freidan and Dr. Bock-Kunz of Atchison Eye Specialist. Teresa was a Charter Member of Faith Bible Fellowship Church, where she taught Sunday School for forty-five years and helped with children church. She also served the church for funeral dinners and helped clean the church. Teresa enjoyed her friends, shopping, exercising at the YMCA, taking spin classes and body pump. She especially loved her family and grandkids; they were her life.
Teresa married John Portenier on March 16, 1970, he preceded her on October 12, 2020. Survivors include a son, Ryan and Laura Portenier, Atchison, KS, two daughters; Michelle and Brandon Underwood, Atchison, KS, Sabrina and Michael Lasater, Atchison, KS, brother and sisters, Joanne and Oren Hunsaker, Olathe, KS, David Avey, North Moore, MO, Greg and Julie Avey, Atchison, KS, Jeff and Jenny Avey, Atchison, KS, Melissa Trammell, Olathe, KS, mother-in-law, Cecelia Bowen, Atchison, KS, eight grandchildren; Erin and Derrick Hughes, Jacob and Jaysha Portenier, Colin and Ari Lasater, Kerstin and Darrin Schmidt, Lexi Lasater, Kinley Underwood, Kennedy Portenier, Brooklynn Portenier, six great grandchildren; Audrey Belveal-Portenier, Levi Schmidt, Abel Portenier, Brynzlee Hughes, Jaxson Hughes, Owen Schmidt and two on the way. She was also preceded by her parents.
