Obituary

Z. Jeanne Derry, 77, of Atchison, KS, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, KS.
The family has requested that Jeanne be cremated and burial of cremated remains will be a later date. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry and may be left in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with the arrangements. Jeanne was born December 17, 1942 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Claude and Zenobia (Westfall) Spence. She was a homemaker for most of her life. Jeanne was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her family, books, camping, church and helping others.
Survivors include her children, Richard L. Layton, IL, Roger G. Ruffner, IA, Tanya L. (Curt) Pope, (three children), NC, Douglas J. Ruffner and (Greg Walker), OK, William A. Keebler, (one child) CA, Raymond J. Keebler, (two children and four grandchildren) CA, Dawn J. (Tim) Bloemker, (Four children and two grandchildren), IL, Laura A. Calhoun, (one child) Atchison, KS, three step children Janette L. Derry, (two children and five grandchildren), Alliance, OH, Monica M. Fernandez, (four children and three grandchildren), Canton, OH, John S. and (Stephanie) Derry, (five children), Salem, OH, siblings, Catherine Bliss, Susan Poe, Anne Bourgeois, Joanie Gouchenour, Barb Murphy, Terri (Raymond) Levingston, Pete (Debbie) Spence, all of Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Zenobia (Westfall) Spence, significant other Ronnie Coulter a grandson Keith R. Lasher, a great grandchild Percy P. Derry, three brothers, Claude “Mackie” Spence, Jr., John “Jack” Spence and Clarence “Lad” Spence, two nephews, John David Spence, Steve Zumbahlen Spence, a niece, Cynthia Koenig, and a great nephew, Richie Zumbahlen.

Jeanne "adopted" myself, husband, and kids as family..and for that I am forever grateful! You have been a wonderful Mom/Grandma/neighbor, and I thank God every day that we were blessed to know you! You have your love (Ronney), and your Angel wings...FLY HIGH! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Mom,
I have always loved you no matter what. I always tried to help you achieve goals like when you moved here but had not yet got around to getting your GED but thanks to Happy Hearts GED program in 2004 you did and how my co-worker helped with making sure you got to have your graduation pictures. I am so proud to have been your biggest cheerleader. I miss our daily after work phone calls and going to church and last September when you came glamping with me.

Jeanne's family & friends are in my prayers. The loss of such a caring person leaves a big hole in your families. I hope heaven has mini Tootsie Pops for Jeanne. Rest in peace my friend.
