Obituary for Helen Irene Hamon (Rigdon)
Helen I. Hamon, 96, formerly of Muscotah, KS, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 in Des Moines, IA.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS with Rev. Al Schirmacher Pastor of the Muscotah United Church officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison, KS. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the funeral Home. Helen was born August 20, 1923, in Horton, KS, the daughter of Eli T. and Elsi Mae (Vanschoiack) Rigdon. She attended Effingham Grade School, Prairie View Grade School and ACCHS graduating in 1940. Helen taught in Atchison County for 3 years and was a homemaker, housewife for most of her life.
Helen married Robert E. Hamon on May 6, 1943 in Atchison, KS. They moved multiple times living in KS, CO, OR, CA, NE and MO. They moved back to Muscotah in 1989. Mr. Hamon proceeded in her in death on May 26, 2000. Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Burns, Early, IA, five grandchildren; Sherri (Larry) Vesterby, Des Moines, IA, Sandra (James) Kracht, Donald (Lynann) Burns, Rick Burns, Tiffany (Brian) Crouse, two step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob, a son Jerold D. “Jerry” Hamon and a brother, Truitt “Earl” Rigdon.
