Obituary for Gary Dean McClanahan

Gary Dean McClanahan, 58, of Atchison KS, passed away, Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital, Kansas City, MO, surrounded by family and friends.
Memorial service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Ridgley Christian Church, Edgerton, MO, with Rev. Jimmy Porter officiating. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes or Kidney Foundation and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Gary was born August 14, 1960 in Smithville, MO the son of Troy and Irene (Burgard) McClanahan. He graduated from West Platte High School in 1978. Gary started work at MODOT in 1981 serving many different positions. At retirement in 2011 Gary was a Regional Maintenance Supervisor for Platte County, Mo.
Gary was an ordained minister and performed many baptism, weddings and funerals, he also taught Awana classes at Ridgley Christian Church. He was a member of Ridgley Christian Church in Edgerton, MO, and attended Faith Bible Fellowship, Atchison, KS. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. Gary loved music; he liked to sing in choir, karaoke, DJ events. He enjoyed cooking, westerns and playing with Tater-Tot (great granddaughter Paisley).
Gary married Shirley Hitchens on July 4, 1997 in Leavenworth, KS, she survives of the home. He is also survived by a son, Travis (Jessie) McClanahan, Leavenworth, KS, a daughter, Shelly Kiehl, Atchison, KS, two brothers, Jack (Laura) McClanahan, Grove Springs, MO, Allen McClanahan, Grove Springs, MO, two sisters, Rae Jean (Curtis) Key, San Antonio, TX, Connie (Johnny) Northern, Grove Springs, MO, grandsons, Kalob, Hunter and Rialy McClanahan, granddaughters, Kayla Combes, Lauren Mortsolf, Serene Kiehl and April McClanahan, great grandsons, Brantley and Hunter, great granddaughters Paisley (Tater tot) Isabella and Stella, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a daughter, Becky McClanahan
