Obituary for Galen Doyle Hisey

Galen Doyle Hisey, 83, of Atchison, KS died at his home on Friday, June 7, 2019 surround by his family.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 12th, 2019 at the Atchison United Methodist Church with Reverend Nancy J. Kollhoff officiating. Burial will follow at the Cummings Cemetery, Cummings. KS The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 11th, 2019 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home who is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison United Methodist Church or Atchison Hospital Hospice and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Galen was born on Oct. 8th, 1935 in Lenora, KS the son of Everett E. and Edna M. (Thompson) Hisey. He graduated from Hill City High School in 1954. He attended Garden City Junior College and received his BS degree in Education from Fort Hays State University in 1959. He earned his Master’s Degree from Emporia State University in 1970. Mr. Hisey was a teacher for 38 years and was a coach for 46 years. He taught at Morrowville High School for 2 years, Vermillion High School 1 year, Valley Falls High School for 15 years and ACCHS for 20 years. Galen was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard, attending KSU Football Games, working crossword puzzles, fantasy football, coaching, and woodcarving. Galen was devoted to this family and loved his grandchildren dearly.

He was married to Louise Turner in July 1958 but they were later divorced. He was married to Barbara (Schrader) Blide on Aug 1, 1986 at Cummings UMC. Barbara survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter Janet R. (Guy) Sartee, Shaker Heights, OH, and three step daughters, Deborah (John) Thompson, Effingham, KS, Dana (Jerry) Ernzen, Cummings, KS, and Denise (Taylor) Joslin, Kansas City, MO, a sister Evelyn Reiman, Binkelman, NE, two grandchildren Josef and Jack Sartee, and five step grandchildren, Jared (Ming) Sartee, Megan (Ryan) Ladner and Jenna Thompson, Tannah and Jaycee Ernzen and one great granddaughter Sawyer Sartee. His parents, a son, Bradley A. Hisey, and two brothers Lyle and Al Hisey preceded him in death.
