Condolence: I seldom read the obits, but my wife does. She knows how much Bud, Ladd, Bob Booe and so many others at MWGP meant to me. We are sorry we can’t make the services today, as Trudy has a session of heart therapy that she can’t miss. I served as a corporate finance counsel to MWGP until my retirement from Lathrop & Gage in 2000. It was an engagement that affirmed my experience that if the guy at the top is a dedicated Christian and honestly focused on doing what’s right, those below him will have the same ethic. The result is always terrific, even in difficult times when the market throws you curves that are hard to hit. As I read the obit, and the lengthy list of charitable, Christian, business and community organizations that Bud influenced, it simply made me smile, recalling the influence one individual can make when he walks in Christ’s shoes. Condolence: Karen, Cathy, and Susan, I had every intention to attend your father's memorial service; however, my recent fracture will keep me at home in Lawrence. My endurance is not good at this point. Please know I will be with you in spirit. Your father did so much for our hometown and was such an endearing man. I will ALWAYS remember my conversation with him at the luncheon last July during the Amelia Earhart Festival. There are so many times I think about that conversation and I still see the twinkle in his eyes and the smile on his face. Our Lord must certainly have a special place for him in heaven.

Condolence From: Jim Slattery
Condolence: Dear Karen, Cathy, Susan and families, I am very sorry to hear about your loss and I deeply regret that I am unable to pay my respects by attending his funeral. Please accept my sincere condolences. I had tremendous admiration and respect for your dad. His amazing and full life was defined by service and generosity to family, community and country. His optimism was contagious! What a great smile he had! When I represented Atchison in the Congress and later when I represented MGP Ingredients I saw first hand how much Bud Cray cared for the people of Atchison, his employees, shareholders and customers. He personified servant leadership. He was an Atchison giant who I am blessed to have known. May God grant him everlasting peace. Sincerely, Jim Slattery

Condolence: Sincere sympathy is extended to all of Bud's family. While serving as Administrative Assistant for many years to Ham Abrahams, of Security Benefit, I had the distinct pleasure of working closely with Bud and his office on Board meeting dates, activities and materials. He was consistently involved, always pleasant, upbeat and dedicated to service. On behalf of Security Benefit Retirees and friends his service is appreciated, and the decisions made in the past have enabled Security Benefit to become a premiere player in the financial services industry. Thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Carol DeGroff Sook

Condolence: As Mr. Cray’s cardiologist I had the privilege of helping him do better but at the same time I could see the joy in living and the concern for others that he always showed even when times were tough. I know that he brought out these qualities in those he touched as well.

Condolence: Karen, Cathy & Susan & your families. Joy and I were saddened to learn of Bud's death. To live in Atchison for any length of time is to know of the generosity and commitment of the Cray family to the community. I always was in awe of Bud's deep devotion to the Presbyterian Church, not only financially but in his service and supportive spirit. Our prayers are with you at this time. Sincerely, Don & Joy Wilson

Condolence: My sincere sympathies to the Cray family. I'm very sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you during this period of mourning. A comforting thought at times like these can soothe the heart. The Bible reveals that it is God’s purpose to restore the dead to life by means of a resurrection to a paradise earth, where sickness and “death will be no more.” (Revelation 21:4) Jesus said: “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” (John 5:28,29) Imagine seeing your dear loved ones again and being reunited with them. God has promised to make that a reality for his faithful ones.
