Obituary for Anita Esther Horn

Anita Esther Horn, 99, of Atchison KS died on Monday, April 6, 2020 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 10th, 2020 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Randy Horn officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. No visitation will be held. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christian Workers Fellowship and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Anita was born on May 23, 1920 in Palisade, NE the daughter of John A. and Arletta E. (Sanders) Horn. She graduated from Palisade Rural High School in 1938 and attended Mt. St. Scholastica College , receiving her diploma in May, 1942. She had also attended the University of Kansas and Emporia State Teachers College. “Miss Horn” was a devoted school teacher for USD #409 from 1942-1985 in the Washington and Central Schools of Atchison. Although never married she had many children who looked up to her as a role model and guide. Many of her former students stayed in contact which was a real delight to her. Anita trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age after hearing a gospel message given by John Walden of Colorado. She spent many years fellowshipping with the Gospel Hall in Atchison and more recently the Riverbend Bible Church, now at the same location. Anita enjoyed sharing her love of Jesus with others.
She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, a life member of the National Education Association and Kansas State Teachers and City Teachers, AAUW. She enjoyed traveling overseas, Europe, and twice to France & Switzerland, she had traveled into most of the states, Cuba and Mexico. She also enjoyed reading, taking care of her cats and corresponding and visiting with friends.

Anita is survived by cousins and a host of other friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Arletta Horn.
