Francis George “Sonny” Krier, 91, of Effingham, KS, passed away Saturday, April 08, 2017 at the Atchison Hospital, Atchison, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Effingham, KS, with Fr. Benjamin Tremmel, OSB as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Effingham, KS. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM with visitation following until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Becker Chapel, Effingham, KS. Memorials are suggested to St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Atchison County Fire District #2 or The Town and Country Senior Center, Effingham, KS and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Sonny was born on May 30, 1925 in Rural Atchison County the son of Mathias and Wilhelmina (Watowa) Krier. He had worked as a welder for Page Airways for forty-two years. Sonny was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and a past member of the Elks. He enjoyed gardening, camping, and fishing, wine making and going to Texas.

Sonny married Mary Ann Sauer on May 13, 1953 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atchison, KS, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son Terrance and Christine Krier, McPherson, KS, two daughters, Judy and Bruce Chalfant, Everest, KS, Jane Knudson and Allen Simmons, Denton, KS, a sister, Mildred Hoffman, Denton, KS, eleven grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, with one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Mathias Krier, a brother, Robert Krier, two sisters; Anna Mae Vollmer and Lucy Hibbs.
