Obituary for Donald Reed Myers

Donald Reed Myers, 87, Atchison, KS, formerly of Bendena, KS died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the
Atchison Hospital surround by his loving family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Atchison United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy J Kollhoff, officiating. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will take place at a later date in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Troy. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral services at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Don was born on November 16, 1928, in Bendena, KS, the son of Clarence E. and Lou (Howard) Myers. Don graduated from Bendena High School in 1946 and then actively served in the United States Marine Corp -Air Wing from 1952 to 1954 being honorably discharged in 1960. Don was a rural mail carrier for 31 years in the Troy and Bendena areas and a farmer for 40 years in Doniphan County, Kansas. After he retired, Don and Elaine read electric meters for Doniphan County Rural Electric and delivered the Atchison Globe. Don was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church; the Louis B. Weinberg American Legion Post # 55 of Troy, KS; the Troy (KS) Masonic Lodge #55; and a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Don was married to Mary Elaine Rainwater on Feb. 6, 1949 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bendena, KS. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, David (Marta) Myers, Atchison; a daughter, Mary Louise Faulkner, Blue Springs, MO; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Myers, Phoenix, AZ; three grandsons, Tom Myers, Nathaniel Faulkner and Nicholas Faulkner.

Don’s parents; two brothers, Byron E. and Ernest H. Myers; and a son-in-law, Stephen Faulkner, preceded him in death.
