David earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Drexel University and a Master’s in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army in 1973, where he served his country dutifully as a soldier for 20 years. A lifelong patriot, David continued serving his country after retiring from the Army as an instructor at the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, where he was highly regarded as an expert historian.

David married his love, Anna Harrison, on Feb. 1, 1974, in Columbus, Ga., and together they built a home for their family while traveling the world. He is father to two daughters, both of whom consider him one of the greatest men and dearest friends each has been honored to know. He also loved his young grandson dearly. David always kept his family at the center of his life.

As a servant of Christ, David devoted himself to the study and practice of his Christian faith throughout his life. He taught his daughters and grandson about God’s love, using his own strong relationship with Christ as a model. He served Christ as a trustee at Carol Baptist Church of Atchison, Kan.

David was also an avid reader of military history and theology, a talented woodworker, a Civil War re-enactor, and a respected instructor in firearm safety. He led a rich life, simple but profound in the love he had for God, his family and his country.

He is survived by his wife Anna; his daughter Jennifer, her husband Michael and grandson Aidan of Woodbury, Minn.; his daughter Jessica or St. Paul, Minn.; his father Francis of Beavercreek, Oh.; his brother Mark and his wife Linda of Findlay, Oh.; his brother Steven and his wife Sandy of Beavercreek, Oh.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. His mother preceded him in death.

Christian services will be held at 7:00p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at Carol Baptist Church, 800 S. 6th Street, Atchison, Kan. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. David’s brother in Christ Pastor Joseph Hansen will lead the service. Military burial will be held at 9:00a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, Kan.
