Obituary for Paul Frank Voelker, Jr.

Paul Frank Voelker, Jr., 83, of Atchison KS died peacefully on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Atchison Senior Village, surrounded by his loving family..

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael Strickland officiating. The body will be cremated following the services and burial of the cremated remains will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Topeka, KS at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 at the Becker Dyer Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church, or Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Paul was born on June 17, 1932 in Delia, KS the son of Paul F. and Wilma (Holt) Voelker, Sr. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army from March, 1953 to January, 1955. Paul worked as an Agent for the Railway Express and later was self employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, Deacon, Moderator, and did the lawn care at church following his retirement. Paul was a former Cub Master and member of the American Horseshoe Association, the American Legion Post # 6, and V.F.W. Post # 1175, Atchison. He enjoyed bowling, pitching horseshoes, playing & coaching softball & baseball, golf, playing bridge, board games, chess and checkers, fishing, camping, and traveling with his wife Virginia in their camper and on bus trips. Paul played in his last softball game at the age of 70.

He was married to Virginia Lee Smell on August 21, 1955 in Topeka, KS. Virginia survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Steve (Mary) Voelker, Mission, KS., and two daughters, Patty (Dwight) Gaul, Atchison, KS., and Diane (Stephen) Neelly, Woodbury, MN., a sister, Shirley (Marvin) Smith, Topeka, KS., seven grandchildren, Mike (Jennifer) Gaul, Chris (Tracy) Gaul, Cortney (Cody) Boeck, Sarah (Garrett) Luttig, Cale Neelly, Dean Voelker, and Tori Voelker and eight great grandchildren, Ethan, Holden, Madalinn, Marlee, Baxter, Sealy, Salem, and Kaden, and several nieces & nephews. His parents, and one sister Leona Coleman, preceded him in death.

Paul had a sense of humor, was onery, loved to tease, and always had a smile on his face; he enjoyed his life spent with family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his friends.
