Obituary for James Mac "Jim" Eichelberger

James Mac Eichelberger, 82, of Atchison KS died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Riverside Place, St. Joseph, MO.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Saturday, Aug. 22nd, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Atchison with Rev. Nancy J Kollhoff officiating. The body will be cremated following the services and burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Miller Cemetery, Everest, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Friday, Aug 21st, 2015 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Jim was born on March 17, 1933 in Sabetha, Kansas the son of Bert and Hazel (McGuire) Eichelberger. He graduated from Everest High School in 1951. Jim had taken college classes at the University of Kansas, Lawrence and Missouri Western College, St. Joseph, Mo. He worked as the Health & Safety Officer for over 37 years for formerly L.F.M Foundry, then as Rockwell International, and retired from Atchison Castings, Atchison, KS. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Atchison, where he was a lay leader, served on the Administrative Council, was Sunday School Superintendent and sang in the church choir and for many weddings and funerals. He also was a member of the Peace Makers Choir and formerly the RIvermens Choir. Jim was Past President and member of the American Society Safety Engineers, a member of the National Safety Council, member of the Board for Achievement Services, member of the American Legion Post # 6, Atchison, and the Pineview Country Club. He had enjoyed playing golf, and working in the yard. Jim had also coached in the YMCA Basketball League. Jim and Diane enjoyed extensive travel throughout the U.S. & Canada.

He was married to Diane G. Elliott on July 6, 1952 in Hiawatha, KS. Mrs. Eichelberger preceded him in death on April 7, 2010. Survivors include a son; Kevin (Brenda) Eichelberger, Atchison KS. and daughter Kristin Eichelberger, partner Susan Convery, Atchison, KS., a grandson, Kyle (Hannah) Eichelberger, and great granddaughter, Hazel Ann Eichelberger, Atchison, KS and his aunt Mildred Conard, St. Joseph MO. His parents, and adopted parents, Keith & Hazel Swartz, his wife Diane, and brother, Carroll preceded him in death.
