Dorothy Gardner passed away peacefully on May 7, 2015.

Dorothy was cremated with a service to celebrate her life well lived to follow at a later date. Arrangements will be provided by Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dorothy Gardner may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association and sent in care of the funeral home. Dorothy was born on a farm near Denton, Kansas on October 9, 1923. The youngest of five children, her family moved to Atchison, Kansas, where she attended grammar and high school. Upon graduation from Atchison High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Leon Faye Gardner on May 30, 1942. They had two children Katherine and Kirk. Dorothy loved to dance, raise African violets, and bake pies. Dorothy is a member of the Disciples of Christ First Christian Church in Atchison and served several years on the Board of Deaconesses and the Prayer Chain. In September 2011, Dorothy moved to Portland, Oregon, to live with her son, Kirk, daughter-in-law JoAnne, and granddaughter Laura. Her final years were spent living at Washington Gardens Memory Care in Portland where she loved to play bingo and participate in arts and crafts.

She will be fondly missed by her son Kirk, daughter-in-law JoAnne, and granddaughter Laura Gardner in Portland, Oregon; son-in-law Bob Nash, grandsons Robert (Bo) and David and Jenny Nash, and great-grandchildren Alex, Evan, Will, Katelyn, and Zach Nash in Illinois.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Faye; her parents, Leslie Daniel and Julia Cox; three sisters Opal, Ludellda, and Twila; brother Leslie; granddaughter Leigh Anne Faye Gardner; and daughter Katherine Nash.
