Melba Louise Brauer, 74, of McLouth, KS passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, KS.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 5, 2015 at The Salvation Army Church 946 New Hampshire, Lawrence, KS 66044, with Lieutenant Matt McCluer officiating. Burial will follow at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorials are suggested to The Salvation Army of Douglas County and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.beckerdyer.com.

Melba was born on May 26, 1940 in Atchison, KS the daughter of John and Willamette (Money) Smith. She worked for many years at the Atchison Hospital as a nurse’s aide; and also managed a group home in Hiawatha, KS. Melba was a Soldier of The Salvation Army Church in Lawrence, KS, and Women’s Ministries group. Melba loved quilting and sewing, making Christmas stockings and mittens.

Melba married Albert Brauer on July 26, 1963 in Des Moines, IA. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2002. Survivors include two sons; Kevin and Diana Brauer, McLouth, KS, Elmer Brauer, Atchison, KS, four daughters; Laura Brauer, Wichita, KS, Majors Marina and David Womack, Aberdeen, SD, Viola and Kemper Straley, Hoyt, KS, Roxie and Terry Sebring, Seminole, FL, ten grandchildren; Evette and Jacob Womack, Graham and Charlotte Straley, Vincent, Travis, Trever, Donna Brauer, Isaiah Sebring, John Trieu.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, John Smith Jr., Walter Smith, Jesse Smith Sr., Elmer Smith, Ernest Smith Sr., and sister Mary Moore.
