Obituary for Raymond L. Kramer, Sr.

Raymond Levon Kramer, Sr., 73, Cummings, KS, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, December 8, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nortonville, KS. Burial will follow in the Cummings (KS) Cemetery. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm, Sunday, December 7, at St. Joseph Church, 221 N. Sycamore, Nortonville, with visitation to follow until 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions in honor of Ray are suggested to St. Joseph Church or Cummings District Cemetery. Words of comfort and remembrance may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com. The Becker-Dyer Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, is entrusted with the arrangements.

Raymond was born April 24, 1941 in San Diego, CA, the son of Norbert and Clara (Amend) Kramer. Ray attended two years of high school at ACCHS in Effingham followed by two years at Maur Hill in Atchison where he graduated in 1959. Ray served in the US Navy from 1960 to 1964 having been stationed in Meridian, Mississippi. Upon returning home, Ray worked at the Goodyear Tire Plant in Topeka in tire production for 36 years, the last four serving as the Union Division Chairman for Local 307. Ray also farmed in the Cummings area for many years. Ray was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Nortonville, a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion in Atchison, and served on the Cummings District Cemetery Board. Ray loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; he also enjoyed sports and dancing.

Ray and Delores Ann Dechand were married on April 28, 1962 at St. Joseph’s Church in Topeka. Delores preceded Ray in death after 38 years of marriage on March 23, 2001. Ray married Judy Elias on December 3, 2005 at St. Ann’s Church in Effingham. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of nine years, Judy, of the home; three sons, Dwayne (Lorrie Garner) Kramer, Effingham, Daryl (Tonya) Kramer, Winchester, Raymond (Vicky) Kramer, Jr., Augusta, KS; two daughters, Cheryl (Frank) Contreras, Atchison and Carol (Dan) Leach, St. Louis, MO; brother, Thomas Kramer; sisters, Karen Weber, Barbara Bindel and Marilyn (Jeannie) Pollard; 22 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
