Thelma Louise Gerardy, 87, of Atchison, KS, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at her home.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Atchison. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Memorial contributions in honor of Mrs. Gerardy are suggested to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the Camp Creek United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Thelma Louise Wohlgemuth was born November 10, 1926 in Atchison County, the daughter of Albert and Mari Willa (Mayfield) Wohlgemuth. Thelma graduated from Atchison High School and started her career at the Pillsbury’s Company in Atchison. She later worked at J.C. Penney’s and as an Avon Representative. In recent years, Thelma was happy being a homemaker.

Mrs. Gerardy was a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church, a Girl Scout Leader for many years, a fifty year member and Past Matron of the Martha Washington Chapter #215 of the Order of Eastern Star and Past President of the Social Order of the Beauceant. Thelma enjoyed playing the piano, her peonies flower garden, feeding and watching her birds. Thelma truly loved living in a historical house and enjoyed sharing stories of living in one of Atchison’s Historic Homes. Thelma was always delighted when the Atchison Trolley would stop outside her home on their Historic and Haunted Homes tours. Thelma especially loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Thelma and George Lee Gerardy were married on September 13, 1947 in Emporia, KS. They had been married 58 years when George passed away on June 17, 2006. Thelma’s parents; two brothers, Albert John Wohlgemuth, Jr. and Melvin Wohlgemuth; a sister, Lavon Hollingsworth, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald Gerardy and Keith Gerardy, both of Atchison; two daughters, Willa George, Blue Springs, MO and Martha ‘Marty’ (Rick) Zumbrunn, Atchison; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Don Hollingsworth, Maryville, MO; sister-in-law, Nora Jean Wohlgemuth, Atchison; and several nieces and nephews.
