John A. Shephard, 84, of Harrisonville, MO passed away on Friday, July 11, 2014 in Harrisonville, Missouri.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 15th, 2014 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Dr. Adam Harmon, Pastor of the Harrisonville Christian Church officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at the Sunset Memory Gardens of Atchison. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Harrisonville First Christiian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. John was born on Dec. 11, 1929 in Atchison, Ks the son of Orville and Helen (Noonan ) Shephard. He attended Atchison High School and was a member of the Class of 1947. Mr. Shephard worked for Wetterau Foods Wholesale Grocers for a number of years before owning and operating his own grocery stores in Richmond, Rolla, St. James and St. Clair, Missouri. After his retirement, he moved to Osage Beach to enjoy his favorite pastime, golf. He also enjoyed playing cards with many friends over the years. John then moved to Harrisonville, Missouri in 2001 to be near family.

Mr. Shephard was married to Marilyn Gorrell on May 10, 1952 in Atchison, KS. Mrs. Shephard survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Larry Shephard, Overland Park, KS; two daughters, Joan (Alan) Edelbaum, Shell Knob, Missouri and Susan (Mark) Lockard, Harrisonville, MO; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a sister, Pat Wendell, Garden Plains, KS., a sister-in-law, Shirley Gorrell, Olathe, KS and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
