Barbara J. Forsberg, 83, of Atchison, KS, passed away from this life into eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Atchison Hospital surrounded by her family.

A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 1640 Riley Street, Atchison, with Rev. Michael Strickland, officiating. Burial will follow in the Cummings Cemetery, Cummings, KS. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. The family suggests memorial contributions to help defray funeral expenses. Words of comfort and remembrance may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Barbara Jean Kinney was born on August 26, 1930 in Elk City, OK, the daughter of Jack and Ruth (Ferguson) Kinney. Barbara attended elementary school in Holton, KS and graduated from high school in Junction City, KS. Barbara and William ‘Bill’ Forsberg were united in marriage on September 11, 1955 at the First Christian Church in Junction City.

Barbara started out working as a teller for the Central National Bank of Junction City, where she was eventually promoted to head bookkeeper. Upon moving to Atchison, Barbara worked as a teller at the former Valley State Bank of Atchison, where she once again, was promoted to head bookkeeper. She later worked as a secretary at Benedictine College for Fr. Gerard Senecal, who at the time was President of the college. Barbara also had worked as a teacher’s aide and library aide at the former Atchison Catholic Elementary Schools.

Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities; Sunday School Teacher, church pianist, Board of Trustees, to name a few. Barbara kept herself very busy with, caring for her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who she loved dearly. She was known as “GG Ma” (Great Grand Ma) to her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, William Forsberg; three daughters, Marion (Fred) Agnew of Atchison, Laurie Forsberg of Atchison and Ruth Forsberg of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren, Lauren Agnew (Travis) Eichelberger, and Adam (Allison) Agnew; Jeff O’Malley, Daniel M. (Tammy) Forsberg, Jr. Five great-grandchildren, Isabella Eichelberger, Taylor Eichelberger, Raeley Agnew , Daniel J. Forsberg, Joshua Forsberg and Ashley Forsberg,; a brother, Jack Kinney, Hermosa Beach, CA.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel M. Forsberg, Sr. in November 2007; one brother, Patrick Martin Kinney; and one sister, Virginia Ruth Moore.
