David Warren ‘Dave’ Griffin, 75, lifelong Atchison, KS resident, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atchison, with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB, as Celebrant. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, April 2, with visitation to follow until 8:00 pm, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Memorials in honor of Dave are suggested to the Leukemia Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Words of comfort and remembrance may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Dave was born on September 24, 1938, in Atchison, the son of Raymond and Alma (Hundley) Griffin. He attended Atchison public schools. Dave was stationed in Germany while serving in the US Air Force from 1960-1964. Following his return home, Dave served for two years in the Air Force Reserve. Dave worked for Dannon Mills prior to working as the General Manager for Atchison Grain Company. After the plant closed, Dave went to work for Rosen’s Agricultural Chemicals in Topeka. He later worked for Lowe’s in St. Joseph until his retirement. Dave was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Atchison and was a Fourth Degree Knight and past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council #723. He was also a life member with the VFW Post 1175 in Atchison.

Dave and Verna M. Petesch were united in marriage at St. Patrick’s Church, Atchison, on August 13, 1966. Verna survives of the home. Dave was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bob, Don, and Bill Griffin; and a sister, Katherine Griffin.

Survivors include Dave’s wife of 47 years, Verna; two sons, David Griffin, Atchison and Dennis (Rachelle) Griffin, Eudora, KS; granddaughter, Rylee Griffin; two brothers, Paul Richard Griffin, Harrisonville, MO and Jim Griffin, Wathena, KS.
