Obituary for Peggy Eileen Gilliland (Gilliland)

Peggy Eileen Gilliland, 70, of Horton, KS. passed away peacefully at the Kansas City Hospice House on Friday, August 24, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 29th, 2012 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kagin, Pastor of the Horton Christian Church officiating. The body has been cremated and burial of her cremated remains will follow in the Muscotah Cemetery, Muscotah, KS. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Peggy was born on Aug. 15, 1942 in Waterville, KS. The daughter of Charles E. “Ed” and Minnie E. (McDonald) Gilliland. She graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1960. Peggy had owned and operated the former Effingham Drive Inn, had worked as the deli manager for the Thriftway Grocery, Horton, KS and later as a club hostess for the Sac & Fox Casino, Powhattan, KS. She enjoyed garage sales, antiques, gambling, and keeping up with her grandchildren.

She was married to Calvin McFarland and later to Jack Moman. Survivors include; two children; a son, Mark (Amy) McFarland, Lenexa, KS, and daughter, Jeanne (Jim) Stone, Morrill, KS. , a brother; Stephen E. Gilliland, Jacksonville, FL,, and nine grandchildren; Erin & Blake McFarland; Megan, Morgan and Marissa Peabody; James, Kaeli, Cory, and Chris Stone. Her parents, and a brother; Charles E. “Charlie” Gilliland preceded her in death.
